The Wallower
The Wallower IPA is The Water Buffalo Brewery’s flagship beer and is a British style India Pale Ale. ‘The Wallower’ name was the winning entry in a ‘Name that beer’ competition held shortly after the beer was first brewed and launched in mid July 2016.
The Wallower IPA is an easy drinking, session ale with 4.1% ABV and 33 IBUs. The hoppy and malty initial taste is followed by a delightful lasting finish containing both caramel and bitter notes provided by the combination of pale and crystal malts and Challenger, Progress & Fuggles hops. The Wallower is our fastest selling cask ale.

This hand-crafted real ale, like all beers brewed at The Water Buffalo, is a traditional, cask-conditioned beer, brewed in the classic British style and served on hand pump. The Water Buffalo Brewery is supplied with water from the local Shek Pik reservoir in South Lantau, the spent grain is made available to the local water buffalo of Pui O, and the spent hops are offered as a fertiliser for local farms and allotments. Local, fresh, sustainable beer!

Hiker's Trail
Hiker’s Trail Pale Ale is another exciting and unique real ale brewed right here at The Water Buffalo Brewery.
Hiker’s Trail is a superb example of an American Pale Ale (APA) brewed in traditional English style as a true cask conditioned ale . Brewed to 4.2% ABV, with a blend of Chinook, Willamette, Cascade and Liberty hops, this refreshing and highly quaffable ale is bursting with citrus hop flavours, full bodied maltiness and well rounded bitterness in the finish. What could be more rewarding than to sup a few pints of Hiker’s Trail Pale Ale in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere, especially after a wonderful hike along Lantau’s picturesque trails?

Black Storm
Black Storm Porter certainly took Pui O by storm when it was introduced in early September 2016 and is a fine example of a classic dark London Porter.
This full-bodied cask conditioned ale packs a real taste punch having rich roast and smoky, oaky, chocolatey flavours, and plenty of velvety bitterness in the finish, provided by a whopping 60 IBUs. Not for the faint hearted? Surprisingly Black Storm has an alcohol content of just 3.9% ABV!

Christmas Ale
Christmas Ale - To celebrate the 2016 Christmas season we created this festive cask conditioned beer with an ABV of 4.6% and IBU 55 and served on hand pump. Citrus and caramel notes combine with Chinook, Willamette, Liberty and Cascade hops and with roasted malts to recreate the complex fruit flavours found in traditional Christmas puddings and cakes, providing a rich full bodied mouthfeel and lasting bitterness in the finish. This Limited Edition beer will be available again towards the end of this year, 2017.

Sunset Peak
Sunset Peak Golden Ale is the most recent addition to The Water Buffalo Brewery’s line-up of craft beers, and promises to be another highly popular beer with our cask ale drinkers.

Sunset Peak has an aroma of fresh hops, a well developed malty flavour with hints of fruity overtones and a pronounced bitterness that leads to a wonderful long-lingering, dry finish. Pale malt combined with the carefully selected English hops, Challenger and East Kent Goldings yield a highly quaffable beer with 3.9% ABV and 33 IBUs. Exactly what you would expect from a true English style Golden Ale.

Big Buddha
Big Buddha Chocolate Stout - This easy drinking ‘winter warmer’ ale was created during the continuing cool weather in February and March 2017 as a seasonal cask conditioned beer with an ABV of 3.9% and IBU 35 and timed to be ready for serving on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, - as appropriate for such a stout-loving nation. The use of pale malt, chocolate malt, caramel malt and roasted barley creates a dark stout beer with hints of both chocolate and coffee in the initial taste wave. The use of rolled oats also provides a smooth mouthfeel whilst the bitterness in the finish (from Target hops) offsets the slight trace of sweetness, (from higher temperature mashing).
Finally the lasting hoppy aroma is provided by the incorporation of plenty of fresh East Kent Goldings hops in the last ten minutes of the hop boil. This Limited Edition beer will be available again as the weather turns cool again next year.
